It’s Results time for my battle of ZZ Top’s Blue Jean Blues. Duking it out were Jeff Healey and Hank Williams Jr.
Jeff Healey came on strong with the first five votes going to him. He continued momentum but Hank Jr. managed to garner up five of the fifteen votes (mine included). I love his voice and the sax really swayed me. In the end though, Jeff Healey commandered the win.
Jeff Healey: 10 votes
Hank Williams Jr: 5 votes
As always, thanks for your participation. Come back on the 15th for my Twisted Christmas battle…
Take us out Jeff… Here’s some Roadhouse Blues (from the movie Roadhouse):
Well, I really didn’t have to do a tally on this battle to know who won and the final result here is not surprising to me. However, I am surprised that Patti Smith didn’t get a few more votes. She got mine though, along with three others.
I really liked her version of this song. It’s completely different for sure, but musically, I love it. I have long been a fan of Patti Smith’s Horses album, having been turned on to it by my dear friend Joanne, God rest her soul. We used to listen to this album over and over back in the 70s. I don’t like all of Patti Smith’s music but her Horses album is fantastic, in my opinion. I also like a few songs on her Wave album. I never did care for her live performances though.
The final tally, although a low voter turnout, gave Shadows of Knight the win for this battle:
Shadows of Knight: 9 votes
Patti Smith: 4 votes
I’m going to close this post with a few Patti Smith songs from her debut album Horses (released in 1975) and a song from her followup album Wave. Thanks for your participation in my battle. I appreciate all your visits and votes!
Birdland (from Horses):
Free Money (from Horses):
Land: Horses/Land of a Thousand Dances (from Horses):
Dancin’ Barefoot (from the Wave album):
Do you like any of these songs? Let me know in the Comments section! Thanks for coming by…
Wow, this one was really neck and neck! The song was The Guess Who’s “These Eyes” and the contenders were Jr. Walker and JackSOUL. Until the very last votes were in, these two were tied in the race for the win. But the last two votes, including mine, gave the prize to JackSOUL.
I had a hard time because I really loved Jr. Walker’s version, especially with his sax! But JackSOUL’s smooth soulful voice won me out.
The votes stacked up like this:
Jr. Walker: 7 votes
JackSOUL: 9 votes
What great fun! And since The Guess Who is my very favorite band of all time, I’m going to close this post with a three of their songs that I love the most:
Runnin’ Back to Saskatoon:
Share the Land:
As always, thanks for participating in my battle. I hope you’ll join me on December 15th for my Christmas Edition battle!
Hey guys, sorry this results post is late. I was road-tripping from Wilmington, N Carolina to Austin, Texas. Long drive!! Anyway, I’m home now and ready to get back to business.
The results are in for the Woodstock battle. It was neck and neck for most of the voting but in the end Eva Cassidy pulled it out with 60% of the vote. Here’s how it broke down:
Eva Cassidy: 9 votes (including mine).
Joni Mitchell: 6 votes
I just thought Eva’s voice was so much smoother than Joni’s and I enjoyed her version more.
So that’s it from this end. Now I’m going to relax and just lay around for the rest of the day. I’m exhausted from driving and riding for two days!
See you on the 15th for the next battle…
The votes are in and the winner by a fair margin is Love & Rockets!
This was a tough one for me because I really liked both versions but overall I liked Love & Rockets edgy treatment so they got my vote.
The tally shakes out with 12 votes for Love & Rockets and 6 votes for Duran Duran.
I thought it was interesting how many people disliked the original Temptations version of the song. I LOVE it!
So that’s it for this battle. As always, thanks for your votes and participation. See you for the next round on October 1st. Can you believe we’re almost in October already??!
