Happy Father's Day image

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there. Today is a special day to recognize and celebrate all the amazing fathers…and I’m here to recognize and celebrate mine.

Many of you know that my parents have been visiting me since November. They came down to spend the winter with me but my mom ended up having open heart surgery in February, plus three other surgery procedures, so their stay has been extended.

And I have to say that I am thrilled that they are here for such an extended time! I feel so blessed to be able to spend all this quality time with them. My Dad and I have shared some special times, like a few weeks ago when I took him out to breakfast, just the two of us. We’re going back to his favorite local restaurant this coming Wednesday too.

Dad and I spent Memorial Day binge-watching episodes of Tour of Duty…and it was so cool listening to his stories comparing what he did in the Korean War and the old-time equipment that they used (he was a Forward Observer, sighting the enemy and communicating back to the troops on the front lines in Korea) and how it was so different from what they were doing and using in the Vietnam War. He’s blown away by what they use today! Hearing him tell those stories of long ago is so interesting.

We’ve spent time talking about his childhood and growing up years; he telling stories over the dinner table about his first jobs, which I found fascinating. I especially liked hearing about the times that he spent with me when I was a baby.

For all this time together, I am forever grateful. He’ll be celebrating his 88th birthday next month!

To the man who was my first love, my first hero, a great provider and an incredible father:

I Love You Dad!
