Is everybody having a good year so far? We’re ten days in… Which also means I’m late in posting the results from our New Year’s battle. The song was “Get Ready” and Rare Earth handily won this battle! Most of you preferred their version over the Supremes. And so did I. But The Supremes did garner a respectable three votes. I just love Rare Earth. Which is why I’m closing this post with another one of their great hits.
The battle tally:
Rare Earth: 10 votes
The Supremes: 3 votes:
Here’s Rare Earth’s 1972 hit Hey Big Brother. Enjoy!
As always, thanks for participating in my battle. See you on the 15th for the next one!
Hi, Michele!
Thanks for reporting the results, dear friend. I’m happy that your ears matched mine for a change 🙂 because that doesn’t seem to happen very often. I love Rare Earth, too. I owned their Get Ready album, highlights of which include the 21.5 minute title track jam along with the cool songs “Magic Key” and “In Bed.” I also owned the band’s 1970 album Ecology which contains an extended 10.5 minute cover of another Temptations hit “(I Know) I’m Losing You” and other great songs like “Born To Wander” and “Nice Place To Visit.” In the early 2000s I corresponded with original members of Rare Earth via an online message board. They were delighted to hear how popular their “Get Ready” cover was at the Shady Dell.
Thanks again, Michele, and enjoy the rest of your week!
