It’s Results Day for my Battle of the Bands, this time featuring Patti Smith’s song Dancin’ Barefoot. Contenders were U2 vs The Feelies.
Not surprisingly, the majority of voters went with U2. While I really enjoyed U2’s version, and I love them as a band, I found myself more drawn to the Feelies. I liked the simplicity of the music in their version, and the vocals more.
The final battle tally is:
U2 — 9 votes
The Feelies – 5 votes
To close us out today, I thought I’d present The Feelies highest charting single, “Away” from their 1988 album Only Life. Its position was #6 on the US Modern Rock chart.
As always, thanks for participating in my battle. See you on December 1st for the next one…
Hi, 1-L!
Truth be told I am not a big U2 fan. In fact I don’t have any of their recordings. In this battle, however, the U2 version of “Dancin’ Barefoot” had more power and impressed me more than that of The Feelies. I’m sorry your ears didn’t match mine this time. I enjoyed the bonus track “Away,” especially the musicianship. The vocal reminded me of Ric Ocasek.
Thank you very much, dear friend Michele. Happy T-giving to you, your dear mother and your barking angels!

Glad you found my comment with my vote. Not that my vote for U2 would have changed the results, but it gave U2 a bigger “edge.” I like the Feelies sample for today–good energetic music.

Even though The Feelies lost, I’m glad to have met them here for the first time. 🙂 Your second selection was good, too. Thanks and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Thanks Debbie. Happy Thanksgiving to you too. I know Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving earlier than we do but hopefully you’ll find reason to celebrate and eat lots of good food on Thursday! 🙂

Canadian Thanksgiving is the 2nd Monday in October. American Thanksgiving is so much more festive than ours, with the 4-day weekend, the parade and all. Enjoy! 😀 We’ll be having a little party on Saturday to celebrate paying off the mortgage early. Free at last! Lots of good food happening there.

A huge Congratulations to you! That’s massive!! Ah, freedom….I can’t wait for the day when I can finally pay off mine. I’m on the fast track though…a few more years, I can see the end in sight.
So happy for you. Sounds like a great party. Wish I could be there! 😘

Only a 4-vote difference, MICHELE. That means “Good Battle!” Nicely done. See ya on the 1st. (The BOTB contest I’ll be doing on the 1st is the one that occurred to me just a few minutes before I thought of that second one — the one I suggested you might want to do. You know, that “twisted” one with two different songs.)

Ah, can’t wait to check out your upcoming battle. I like twisted. I’m doing the one you suggested to me after the first of the year. Putting some time into it, it’s so good!

Believe me, I have absolutely no plans of leaving the house on Friday. Sometimes I get in the mood to shop on Black Friday but not this year!
Happy Thanksgiving Birgit!

Yikes! I’ve been away for too long. Sorry for not getting here to check the results. Now, after I leave a comment here, I’ll check out your new battle.
Sorry, but I kind of had a feeling U2 was going to win.
If it’s any consolation, I really like the Feelie’s song, “Away”, which you presented today.
