Battle of the Bands RESULTS – Gloria

Well, I really didn’t have to do a tally on this battle to know who won and the final result here is not surprising to me. However, I am surprised that Patti Smith didn’t get a few more votes. She got mine though, along with three others.

I really liked her version of this song. It’s completely different for sure, but musically, I love it. I have long been a fan of Patti Smith’s Horses album, having been turned on to it by my dear friend Joanne, God rest her soul. We used to listen to this album over and over back in the 70s. I don’t like all of Patti Smith’s music but her Horses album is fantastic, in my opinion. I also like a few songs on her Wave album. I never did care for her live performances though.

The final tally, although a low voter turnout, gave Shadows of Knight the win for this battle:

Shadows of Knight:  9 votes

Patti Smith:  4 votes

I’m going to close this post with a few Patti Smith songs from her debut album Horses (released in 1975) and a song from her followup album Wave. Thanks for your participation in my battle. I appreciate all your visits and votes!

Birdland (from Horses):

Free Money (from Horses):

Land: Horses/Land of a Thousand Dances (from Horses):

Dancin’ Barefoot (from the Wave album):

Do you like any of these songs? Let me know in the Comments section! Thanks for coming by…

  1. Hi, Michele!

I’m sorry our ears didn’t match on this one, but happy that the SOK won the battle. I listened to your Patti Smith selections. Seems that on “Horses” she gave “Land of 1000 Dances” a new coat of paint like she did on her remake of “Gloria.” By far my favorite of the bunch is the last song, “Dancing Barefoot.”

I hope all is well in your household today, dear friend Michele. Have a great Thurs, Friday and weekend!

    • Hi Shady. Yes, her first album was definitely “different”. Her Wave album went a little more mainstream. Have you ever seen her on TV? I haven’t liked any of the live performances but I’ve only seen her a few times. She was out of control weird from what I saw!

Well, everything is pretty normal over here. My dad got home from the hospital on Tuesday and not 24 hours later he fell so we had to call the fire department again. We can’t get him up because he can’t really do anything to help himself when he’s down (both his shoulders are bone on bone and he’s in terrible pain) plus he weighs 234 lbs so we just can’t get him up. Poor fire dept guys are probably sick of coming here. They’re so nice though! I’m going to take them a big tray of cookies next week…
The nurse from Home Healthcare just left here and Dad is going to get some physical therapy. But we finally have him in the wheelchair and off the walker. He just has to realize he can’t walk on his own anymore. It’s so sad.

Thanks for all your caring thoughts and concerns. So appreciated!

      • Hi, Michele!

No, I don’t recall ever having seen Patti perform live.

I am terribly sorry to learn that there are new problems with your dad. Perhaps the silver lining, if there is one, will be that your parents finally acknowledge that it is not a good idea for them to return home and go it alone. Maybe now they will agree to stay with you there in Austin. I hope so for their sake and for your peace of mind. God bless!

        • From your lips to God’s ear, my friend! I can only hope… They’re bound and determined to go back home. I don’t know what else to do: I’ve talked until I’m blue in the face. I just hope they don’t make a mistake and go back home then have something happen where they’ll end up being stuck there. I just don’t know. I guess it’s in God’s hands…

    • Well, MICHELE, you did indeed predict to me beforehand how this Battle would turn out.

But that’s OK. Sometimes I just like the match-up of a certain Battle and I put it out there even though I know the outcome will be lopsided. I always create my Battles with the idea of pleasing myself with it first. If I really like it a lot, then it doesn’t bother me if the voters side overwhelmingly with one artist over the other.

      As Ricky Nelson sang:
“You see, ya can’t please everyone, so you got to please yourself.”

See ya on 10/1, Michele. (Please check your Email; I just sent you something — believe it or not.)
