Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there. Today is a special day to recognize and celebrate all the amazing fathers…and I’m here to recognize and celebrate mine.
Many of you know that my parents have been visiting me since November. They came down to spend the winter with me but my mom ended up having open heart surgery in February, plus three other surgery procedures, so their stay has been extended.
And I have to say that I am thrilled that they are here for such an extended time! I feel so blessed to be able to spend all this quality time with them. My Dad and I have shared some special times, like a few weeks ago when I took him out to breakfast, just the two of us. We’re going back to his favorite local restaurant this coming Wednesday too.
Dad and I spent Memorial Day binge-watching episodes of Tour of Duty…and it was so cool listening to his stories comparing what he did in the Korean War and the old-time equipment that they used (he was a Forward Observer, sighting the enemy and communicating back to the troops on the front lines in Korea) and how it was so different from what they were doing and using in the Vietnam War. He’s blown away by what they use today! Hearing him tell those stories of long ago is so interesting.
We’ve spent time talking about his childhood and growing up years; he telling stories over the dinner table about his first jobs, which I found fascinating. I especially liked hearing about the times that he spent with me when I was a baby.
For all this time together, I am forever grateful. He’ll be celebrating his 88th birthday next month!
To the man who was my first love, my first hero, a great provider and an incredible father:
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
I Love You Dad!
Hi, Michele!
What a sweet tribute to your dad on Father’s Day! You are fortunate to have your mother and father with you. They provide companionship and a valuable link to the past reminding you how life in this world used to be. The stories their share and information they impart cannot be found in history books because it is drawn from their own personal experiences. Your dad is a great man and I thank him for his service. Happy Father’s Day to him and to you, dear friend Michele!

Thank you Shady. You’re so right: the conversations and sharing of memories and experiences are important links to the past. I can tell my Dad enjoys talking about those days as he gets a gleam in his eye. I’m so very grateful for the time we have together.
Thanks for dropping by today. And Happy Father’s Day to you!

Treasure those times! I’d love to have had more time with my father. I’m kind of sad that I don’t get to see my kids as much as I’d like to. Maybe someday. Hopefully not too far from now.
Happy Father’s Day to your Dad!

I am definitely treasuring each and every moment we have together!
I hope you get to spend more time with your kids. It’s hard when everyone is spread out all around the country. I know because my folks live in NC, my brother in NY and me in TX. There are a lot of miles between us all and it sounds like it’s that way for you too.
Happy Father’s Day to you Lee. Hope you’re enjoying your special day…

Thanks Tric. I am so very blessed to have this special time with them. I’m trying to talk them into moving in with me because frankly, I don’t know how they’re going to make it on their own when they go back home. Taking it one day at a time…
Hope you’re enjoying your Sunday…and time with your family.

Lovely sentiments. I thank your dad for his service and wish him a happy Father’s Day as well. Mine passed away over 30 years ago and I wish I had had more time with him. Enjoy — and I hope you are writing down his stories to pass on!

Thanks Janet.
I’m so sorry that you’ve been without your Dad for over 30 years. But hopefully you feel his presence in your heart and his spirit around you.
I have definitely written down some of the things he’s told me. Thanks for the reminder!
Hope you’re enjoying your Sunday!

This is a beautiful Father’s Day tribute and I enjoyed reading it. You are so lucky to be able to hear his stories and share in his memories. I hope you write these down. He was born the same year as my mom! I lost my dad when I was 23 and one is still too young to really ask about the memories they had. I have some but, I would really pick his brain now.

Oh Birgit, that has to be hard losing your dad at such a young age. I lost my grandparents when I was very young and grieved for years not having them in my life. So much wisdom I missed out on!
Thanks for stopping by today…

Back in March, I thought I read something on your blog where you took your favourite band and had to use their titles to answer a number of questions. Since I’m laid up I thought I would give it a shot.

I saw some of those posts but it didn’t start here. I know Debbie D. did it and a few others. I was going to and never got around to it. I’m going to check yours out now. Maybe I’ll finally get around to doing it because it sounds fun!

Happy Father’s Day, Michele’s dad. I wish my dad had told more stories about when he was a pilot. I’m so glad you’re getting all this time with your parents. I wish it weren’t because of your mom’s surgeries, of course. Willy Dunne Wooters got sick and didn’t come over, so the dogs didn’t get to give him his Father’s Day gift. They are not pleased.
Love,
Janie

Hey Janie, So sorry that WDW was sick for his holiday yesterday. Hopefully he’s feeling better and can come over and get his presents!
I have found that my Dad is more open about his past than he ever was when I was growing up. I think that’s because he was just too busy working…
I’ve learned so much about him these last few years and it’s wonderful!
Thanks for stopping by Janie.

Thanks Debbie! I’m so glad that my Dad is finally opening up about his earlier life. I’m learning so much…and discovering why he is the way he is, which is always helpful. I think he enjoys reminiscing now.
Thanks for the well-wishes! 🙂

Mattie! Were your ears ringing this weekend? We just said how we have to call you and see how you are faring these days… How’s everything going with the healing? You getting around better?
We had a nice Father’s Day. We made roast beef so we could have Beef on Weck. And Dad brought up John and told a story about him: remember when you guys were at Eddie and Diane’s and Eddie made the beef on weck? Dad was telling us that John went up and only put one little piece of meat on his bun and Eddie said, “Give me your plate. This is how we eat beef on weck” and piled his bun with meat. John just laughed.
I miss you guys and so wish you could come to Texas to visit. Wouldn’t that be great? You’re always welcome anytime.
Love you tons. We’ll give you a call this week. XOXO ❤

Sounds great Michele, i am doing better, still have pain in the shoulder and arm, still doing therapy, but they say it will get better. We had a good Father’s day. Our church has a meal for Mothers day and for Fathers day. Each family makes a covered dish. John made it this year since I Cam’t use my arm right yet, He made Pork and kraut.. He has been so good in helping with everything and making sure I don’t fall again. I am very Blest, and after 56 years I love him more if that is possible. talk soon. Love andHugs
