Well, this battle looked like it was headed for a total shutout but in the end the Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies snatched a few votes, resulting in a 26% share of the votes. Everyone seemed to prefer BB King & Bonnie Raitt’s version. I liked their version just fine and I think Bonnie Raitt’s contribution in that duo was fantastic. But in my opinion, no one can do that song better than Dr. John. So I appreciated the different approach that the Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies took, with their electrified funk version. Therefore I placed my vote with them.
The final tally:
BB King/Bonnie Raitt 16 votes
Screamin’ Cheetah Wheelies 5 votes
I did learn something in this battle though. I never really thought of pitting the original against a cover. I’ve always pitted cover against cover. But our own Stephen McCarthy pointed out that it would’ve been a much better battle had I put Dr. John up against BB King/Bonnie Raitt’s version. I agree! In hindsight, I should’ve done that. Maybe I’ll save that for a battle down the road, because I’m very interested to see how that match-up would end up…

It did look like a blowout early on, but I’m glad the Cheetah Wheelies got some votes, as I actually liked them too. Just not as much as BB and Bonnie. 🙂 Yeah; putting them against Dr. John would be an interesting battle, for sure!

Thanks Debbie. Yeah, I think I’ll do that battle in a few months… I love the Dr. John version so much! Are you guys getting any effects from Storm Jonas? My brother and sister-in-law are here and ended up staying another day because their flights were cancelled. We celebrated: we found out that the flights were cancelled just when we were all going to bed on Thursday night so then we got everybody up and out of bed for another beer to celebrate! 🙂 It was nice to have them here for another day!

I liked BB King and Bonnie Raitt better so glad they won. I bought a record of Dr. John for my brother one year since he loves blues…so many different types of music. I asked him which one he preferred and he said nothing beats Dr. John. I tried to tell him how the battle works but not sure he got it:)

We’ve got some ice and snow here, in NC, but it’s begun to melt. It’s been a hoot watching the squirrels play.

What part of NC are you in Dixie?? My folks live in Wilmington area…but they’re spending the winter here with me in Austin, TX. I’d give anything to see some snow! I haven’t seen snow in years!!! I miss it so much (grew up in Buffalo/Niagara Falls). I bet those squirrels were having a blast. I saw some of the National Zoo videos that were floating around online about the animals reactions to the snowfall in DC. Sweet!
