Today is the day to reveal the results to the Battle of the Bands for California Dreamin’. The Seekers didn’t fare too well on this one. I think they sounded close to the original, if that’s even remotely possible because, after all, it’s the Mamas and the Papas. But their version was so much like the original versus Bobby Womack’s version which was incredibly different.
Most of the voters liked his take on the song, including me. I love what he did with California Dreamin’, making it so soulful. So my vote went to Womack too.
Final tally: Bobby Womack – 15 votes
The Seekers – 4 votes

Lol. I’m surprised it was as wide a spread as it was. But Womack really did a nice job with the song and it seemed to resonate with several folks. I guess because his version was so different…

I liked the Womack version, but The Seekers sounded more like The Mamas & The Papas, so it’s hard to understand how they got beat so badly.
Maybe next time, put the Womack cover against The Beach Boys version. If my Boys don’t whup him as bad as he whupped The Seekers, I will eat my Stetson (and with no whiskey to wash it down with)!

I just listened to the Beach Boys version. Wow, that is really good. That would be an interesting match-up, Womack and the Beach Boys. Maybe I’ll do that in a few months or so. Summertime, perfect for some BB. I really do need to add them to my A-Z. Don’t know how I forgot about them! Have a great weekend Stephen.
