“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” – Mark Twain
I just saw this Mark Twain quote on a blog the other day and it made me stop in my tracks. Have I experienced that other important day yet? I don’t know that I’ve figured out why I’m here just yet. I have some ideas but nothing that makes me go, “Yes, this is it. This is exactly why I’m here.”
I just turned 53 and still searching for my raison d’etre. Have you figured out why you’re here??
I think my reason for being is to write. Perhaps one day I shall write something that’ll inspire someone. Other than that, I don’t know.

That’s a good reason for being Jeffrey. May it be always fulfilling for you!

Hmmm, I suppose we’re all supposed to have a “purpose”, but honestly, this is not something I’ve ever given much thought to. This isn’t likely to change at the age of 60 and I prefer to just “be” and enjoy life as much as possible. Call it the hedonistic approach. 🙂

I could get all philosophical and ramble on and on about this–maybe that’s my purpose in life?

You know, as much as I don’t want to be a debby downer… maybe not everyone has a purpose in life? Every life having purpose means there’s some grand design and I don’t particularly buy into that. I know what I WANT to do in life and whether that’s my purpose or not is up in the air. *shrug*

Good point of view. No debbie downer at all…

My hubby would say I am here to irritate him:) …sounds good to me:) Actually, this is a great quote because you want to accomplish more than just going to work, owning a home and then dying. Ick! Let’s hope we have all helped change a person’s life even if we don;t know it.

That is an excellent, thought provoking quote, Michele. I am close to 66 (and I don’t mean Route 66 🙂 and I am still trying to figure out my reason for being. I believe that my purpose in life is to set a good example, be kind and supportive and to entertain people, make them smile and forget about their problems for a while.
Have a safe and happy weekend, dear friend Michele!

Thats a very noble purpose Shady! And if that’s the case, I’d say you’ve succeeded!
You too have a happy weekend. Can’t believe it’s already the weekend. The weeks are flying by…

I will be 53 on Oct 11, and no, I still have not figured out my “reason why.” I try not to let the lack of answer bug me.
