Notable Quotable – Achievement

“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.” ~ Robert Louis Stevenson

Sometimes we’re hard on ourselves. We don’t accomplish all that we want to, we don’t achieve that goal that we’ve been shooting for or realize that dream that we’ve so long been chasing. Don’t despair. All the work that you have done, all the groundwork you have laid, resonates in the universe. Each action has particular meaning or importance for someone and that in turn affects or appeals to someone else and a ripple effect ensues. Everything you do matters.

The end result at the conclusion of the day isn’t always the gauge to which we need to pay attention. Instead, revel in the steps that you took to get there.

“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.” Great quote!

How does this quote resonate with you?

  1. Hi, dear Michele!

This is a wonderful quote. I totally agree that our daily words and deeds can have an unseen ripple effect. They have the power to inspire and influence people we don’t even know, transform the quality of their lives and even change the course of history. In the 80s, when I was actively involved in the motivational seminar movement, a trainer once uttered the following profound affirmation:

“I might not be the one who changes the world, but I can teach the person who does.”

Thank you, dear friend Michele, and have a wonderful Wednesday!

  2. Much of the time we never see the results of our efforts. The seeds that we have planted often don’t even sprout until we have moved on elsewhere. Seed planting is more about legacy than immediate gratification.

  3. This quote resonates now more than ever because I think most people need to chill. We are always told to achieve this or that, buy this-must have it now etc… People go on vacation, and sit by the beach checking their work e-mails. We have forgotten how to look back and see what we actually have accomplished and we can take it easy a bit. I wish some employers would not use threats to their staff to continue working and making more money but actually let them sit back and enjoy what they have actually accomplished

    • Times have changed so much and people just don’t have time to smell the roses anymore. Pressure, pressure, pressure seems to be the directive of the day everyday. Good points you made! Thanks for stopping by.

  4. This is something I say all the time–we are farmers– each and every one of us. We do not have control over outcomes and who will listen to us or not. So the best we can do is plant the seed with the people we talk to and interact with and let it go. Who knows what will grow?? Love love love this post !!!!
