Notable Quotable – How We See Ourselves

It’s not who you are that holds you back,

it’s who you think you’re not.

How many of us struggle with that evil voice inside us that says “I’m not good enough”? How many times have we decided not to go for something because that self-perception of not being enough stopped us?

We are our own worst critics. I don’t know about you but I know I usually see myself very differently than the rest of the world sees me.

I like this quote because it really hits the nail on the head. “It’s not who you are that holds you back; it’s who you think you’re NOT.” In too many cases, you are not who you think you are. You’re far better and far more equipped for the quest that you wish to conquer.

So the next time you feel you are holding back, think about this quote. You might be surprised at how many risks you suddenly start taking…with ultimate payoffs!

Can you relate to this quote?

    • Oh Lord, I don’t even want to talk about how my “not good enough” rears its ugly head when I’m writing!!! That’s a very vulnerable place, there.

  1. Not only do I relate to it wholeheartedly, but it took me ages to realise I was in no way unusual. I thought I was weird, and tried to hide it. That made people think I was big-headed! Or maybe I am big-headed, and I just don’t see myself that way. Hang on, this is getting far too complicated. Who am I anyway?

    • Family dynamics play a big part in shaping how we view ourselves and that sometimes can be a very bad thing… Keep fighting the good fight John! Beat those demons down! The voices, they’re so loud sometimes, aren’t they??

  2. Oh I fight this daily. I was told this by one evil man when I was a child and then in grade school and high school I was severely bullied so I was told I was not worth anything almost daily. It takes a lot to keep saying otherwise. My parents were great…and so was I for believeing I was the engine that could.

    • I totally relate Birgit. I was bullied in school too and it did a number on my self-esteem. I still battle the demons. Like you, my parents were incredible and helped me endure. Thanks for sharing. ❤
