If you are afraid of your future, you don’t have a present. ~ James Petersen
This is so true! I have profound experience in dealing with this within my own family. My mom is a chronic worrier. She always has been. She worries about the What Ifs all the time…most of which never come to pass. All that time wasted in worry. It not only affects her peace of mind, it affects her health. I preach to her all the time, to not worry about things that haven’t happened yet.
And now, I am reminded of this sermon myself. I have spent a great deal of time recently worrying about something that is a very remote possibility, to the point that it interferes with my ability to appreciate the beauty of each and every day. This is craziness. So for that reason, I post this quote for me.
And for anyone else who suffers from unfounded fears.
Do you find yourself so worried about your future that you aren’t living in the here and now? If so, let’s make a deal to change that, starting right now. Live today, fully and freely. And always remember, if you are afraid of your future, you don’t have a present!
This is very true and sometimes it’s the things you haven’t even thought to worry about that catch you out so all your worrying was on the wrong thing.

Lol, Yes that’s very true Mark. I’m sure you’re dealing with a lot of the What Ifs right now, given your upcoming move. Deep breaths, one day at a time, right? 🙂

Right on, Michele! My mother is also one of those chronic worriers and a hypochondriac on top of it! That’s no way to go through life! I tend not to worry about things unless given a specific reason to do so. It doesn’t even occur to me to think about what might happen. Life is short – enjoy! 🙂

And you’re probably healthier than most being that you don’t worry. That’s great!!! Good for you. Keep it up Sister! 🙂

Great advice. Easier said than done. I am a worrier too. I wish I knew how to quit. I have to work hard at it.

So much easier said than done! It’s easy to tell someone else not to worry about things that haven’t happened yet but it’s much harder to tell yourself that same thing. How well I know! Thanks for stopping by Paula

I think the older I get the less I worry. I’ve had stomach ulcers since shortly after my high school graduation so I had to learn to “let it go”… (and that’s good advice for anyone)

You’re very fortunate that you have been able to let go. I wish it were possible for my mom. I know it’s possible, but like she says, after 80 years of being this way it’s hard to change. That’s true too…

I constantly have to yank myself back from the precipice of needless worry and remind myself to focus on the here and now. Anxiety can be crippling; if we allow it a toe-hold, pretty soon it’s wrapped itself around every inch of us. Got to keep kicking it to the curb!

Beautifully said Kern! Anxiety can be as suffocating as a boa-constrictor for sure. Thanks for your comment!

Would your Mother be open to taking some medication? Anxiety is very real and it’s not something you can just decide not to have. My mother too was worrier, but she was much worse than any of us realized. You sorta get used to it over the years, than when she did a true medical problem, the anxiety really played against her recovery. I think she would have done well to have taken something for her nerves, but she masked it I think when at the Doctors and with Daddy. If it’s something you and your Mother can actually talk about I truly encourage you to do so.

Thanks for your input Sandy!! Much appreciated. It’s hard to see someone you love worrying themselves sick…

You can plan and good planning should eliminate some worry. I try not to worry about the future, but sometimes it’s difficult not to worry just a bit.
I think Jesus said it best when he said something like, “Why worry about tomorrow when you’ve got plenty to worry about today.”
I think he said it better than I did but I think I got the gist of it.
