It’s Time for My A-Z Blogging Challenge Theme Reveal!

atoz-theme-reveal-2015-125

The blockbuster event is almost here with April 1st marking Day One of the month-long A-Z Blogging Challenge. Today is the day that we participants reveal our themes.

Last year was my first year participating and I didn’t do a theme, which worked out quite nicely as I had the freedom to creatively explore the alphabet without being tied to a specific topic. (You can see the collection of my 2014 A-Z Challenge Posts here).

But for this year’s challenge I decided to up my game and do a theme:

An A-Z Musical Tour of My Life

The idea took root when I found in a drawer a plastic bag holding a slew of concert ticket stubs. I started sifting through the stubs, each one evoking smiles, belly-laughs and memories galore of all those shows that I saw in the carefree days of my youth. I was also blown away at the prices I paid to see concerts back in the day.

My A-Z posts will be a compilation of the bands that were important to me in my growing up years. Each day will spotlight different bands and artists; the posts will be a variety of concert footage, music videos, trivia and personal stories — oh, and you’ll also get to see those concert stubs that I found. Wait till you see the prices!! Hint: the first concert I saw (Bad Company and Kansas) cost me $6…and I saw a super lineup of George Thorogood, Loverboy, Journey and the Rolling Stones for the steep price of $15!  Rolling Stones concert stub-closeup

One thing that is critical for A-Z posts to be considered desirable and appropriate is to keep them short. At first glance my posts may seem long but they are arranged in such a way that you can scroll through and either read the blurbs about the bands or catch a quick story or stick around for a bit and check out the music videos and concert footage. My hope is that you’ll find my entire collection worthy of bookmarking: there is going to be a ton of great music posted there! And there will be a few One-Hit Wonders that will find their way into my library of classics.

So stay tuned! April 1st is Day One featuring bands beginning with the letter A, and every day during the month of April (except Sundays) will focus on a different letter of the alphabet. I’m also asking readers to post a comment and let me know what bands or artists I forgot to include or what bands THEY would’ve chosen as their favorites.

Please join me every day in April on the Musical Tour of My Life — and be sure to CRANK IT UP!

  1. I can’t wait to read your posts, Michele! I know you started working on them some time ago, so I’m sure they’ll be fantastic. 🙂 Yes, ticket prices are insanely expensive now, but I missed out on many concerts in the good old days, so I’m making up for lost time. See you in the trenches! ROCK ON! \m/

There’s nothing better than slipping back in time for a nostalgic trip down Classic Rock Lane. I don’t get to many concerts these days but I get to attend through your posts.I’m looking forward to checking out your Challenge this year; you have a great theme! Oh, and Happy Anniversary: last year’s A-Z is how we met. 🙂

  2. This is a fun topic that you already know that I like. I can relate to those prices and there were so many great concerts to afford back prior to the 90’s. Have a great time with this topic!

April used to be my most dreaded month with income taxes looming as the clock quickly ticks away but now April is my favorite month because of this incredible blogging event! Looking forward to experiencing so many new blogs while visiting old friends from last year. You rock Arlee Bird! 🙂

    • Eight dogs? Awesome!!! You must be in heaven all the time! There is nothing better than being surrounded by all that unconditional love 24/7. I have a dogsitting business and the dogs come to stay at my home. This past week was Spring Break and I had 14 dogs here: 10 greyhounds, 2 whippets, a golden-retriever mix and a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel! Heaven… pure heaven! Would love to hear more about your 8. I’m looking forward to hearing about the back roads of Georgia too! Have fun with the A-Z. Thanks for stopping by!

    • Thanks C.Lee! Managing that many dogs is a lot of work but it’s so worth it. Now if I can just discover a way to turn dog poop into bio-fuel…

  3. Such a wonderful theme!
You know? I’ve never been to a concert when I was a kid… and it was the 80s! I think I lost something there. That’s why I’ll read your posts with pleasure 🙂

    • Well put: yes, music is absolutely brilliant for memories! I would venture to say that music supersedes all others when it comes to evoking memories…except maybe the power of smell. I listen to classic rock mostly so I’m always living in the past for exactly that reason. Thankfully I had amazing growing up years so living in the past is actually quite pleasant. 🙂

    • Duran Duran sounds like it would be a fun concert! And hanging out on the lawn: some of the best concert memories are of what you were doing with the people you were hanging with. Please come check it out next month…

  5. I’ll be looking forward to reading your posts. One of these years, I’d like to try a musical A to Z theme, though I’ve always held back since there are a couple of letters I’d have a really hard time choosing just one album for. R, W, and P in particular.

    • Thanks for stopping by Carrie Anne! You should try a musical theme. It’s really fun putting it all together but it does take a lot of time, as do most of the A-Z themes. That’s the challenge, right? The only letter I really had problems with was X…
