In Memoriam – RUFFLES

It is with a sad heart that I am posting this In Memoriam post remembering Ruffles, one of my guest dogs who I have loved having here over the last several years. Ruffles, a little red greyhoundRuffles developed pericardial effusion (fluid around the heart) from a malignant mass, likely Hemangiosarcoma, a cancerous tumor of the blood vessels, which affected the vessels leading to her heart. It was a shock, as it usually is with Hemangiosarcoma. It’s a quiet cancer that usually goes undetected until it’s too late.

Ruffles was an absolute joy to be around! I will miss her sweet spirit and her goofy antics. For her memorial tribute, I wrote this poem:

Ruffles, a little red greyhound so petite

with a big personality sugar sweet.

She was often quite comical.

The tilt of her head said quizzical

and her behavior was frequently whimsical.

I nicknamed her “BOING BOING”

for she gleefully jumped up to give kisses,

Her bounces boinging with very few misses.

It’s hard to believe she’s gone.

But she’s not really, for her spirit lives on.

There will always be a special place in my heart

For that dear little sweet tart!

Although we miss her so

We’ll see her again, this I know.

RUFFLES HURLEY

October 2001 – February 2014

Run with the wind, precious one!

Love always, Michele and all your Grey Zone buddies

    • She was one of my Dogsitting customers. And she’d been a guest here for years. She had a fabulous home with a fabulous and loving family. They miss her tremendously, as they miss their Morty too, another of their greys that passed back in Oct. it’s so hard to lose our babies but to lose two so close together is devastating.

    • Thank you. Ruffles was a very special girl and her family is definitely grieving. I will miss her too. She was always a joy to have here when she visited. The dogs who come to visit and stay here while their families travel move right into my heart too! I love them like they were my own.

    • It is indeed. The only things that give me solace is knowing what a good life they had, how much they were loved and that we’ll all be reunited someday. That I truly believe.
